Behind the cute art style and freaking small file size (95mb!!!), it’s a very interesting strategy game, especially in multiplayer and it’s the perfect game to in the background while watching a show or something like that. Where the game really shines is how simple it is on the surface, the barrier to entry is so low but once you get into it… it’s like a completely different game, every placement matters and bad placements bite you in the ass later. Troops scale better in different ways than other troops so you’ve always gotta adjust your strategy accordingly or be out scaled by the game, which on the hardest difficulty happens in a couple of years.

Don't Starve Together

Don’t Starve Together is Terraria’s cousin, and while it might be a game you can pick up and play for a few hours and then resume next week. Those who’ve played it know, it pulls you right in and KEEPS you there, as long as you get over the initial hurdle of learning what you’re even supposed to do, and not dying to darkness. The complexity there is to this game is unlike any other I’ve played so far, and this seems to be Klei’s thing: seemingly simple games with so much complexity you could spend tends of thousands of hours in them and still not be aware of everything. This game isn’t a survival game like Minecraft, you’re fully incentivized to seek out all the difficult content the game has to offer or else you’ll be bored out of your mind simply just surviving and basing. The main progression loop of this game is nowadays heavily focused on bossing WHILE surviving. It’s not about the combat it’s about surviving and prepping for the bosses, learning their unique mechanics and patterns and cheese. The combat in this game is very barebones, but somehow incredibly challenging AND satisfying as all heck. Kiting, as it’s called, involves moving your hurtbox, your character outside of the attack range of the enemy. It’s very simple but has a lot of hidden complexity, on top of the fact that—not every enemy or boss is kite-able. The new bosses and stuff especially have very interesting counter play compared to the old RoG giants and seasonal bosses.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

I’ve never been fond of super heroes but, Spider-Man has grown on me. He’s the most tolerable one for me, that’s for sure. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, is without a doubt the best game in the trilogy. Though it lacks in certain areas in which the others did well, it holds the best set of features from both of the previous games and builds on top of them in an interesting way.

Exit 8

This is a fun little game. The game tasks you with reaching exit 8. You walk through a looping tunnel that, sometimes changes and you have to spot those changes or “anomalies.” If you notice a difference you turn around—if you don’t—then you continue straight.

It’s very short, it took me only an hour to complete it and honestly my main gripe with the game is that it kinda gave me a tiny headache. There’s some settings to turn off the head bobbing and motion blur but the same-y white hallway is really not pleasant on the eyes after a while. I think this is by design though as it makes it a lot harder to spot the anomalies.

Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition

An old game that, while very barely—still holds on to this day! There’s a lot of insanely cool things this game did for its time, the looting system is especially something that was super revolutionary in a game like this.

I first got the game 4 years ago, but I had gotten a bunch of other games along with it on sale so I didn’t get to play it much, even more so as I’d gotten stuck in the early game at the time. So I ended up putting the game off for a long time, and finally got back to it when I got my PS5. For the longest time I thought, maybe looter shooters just aren’t for me, maybe they aren’t but Borderlands should’ve been a game I loved. I’m a sucker for RPGs and numbers games in general so there must’ve been something I was doing wrong, right?

Untitled Goose Game

Untitled Goose Game might be honking perfect! It’s a short game where you play as a Goose and it came out quite a while ago now—and has won multiple awards, for good reason. At first when I saw the game I thought it was cool but overtime I had sort of grown to dislike it, thinking I likely wouldn’t play it. However, having played it now, I can say that it definitely lives up to the hype and the love this game has received is most deserved.

Yakuza 7 Gaiden

A great game that builds upon an already great story, from a different character’s perspective. Yakuza 7 Gaiden’s story is, absolutely banging, as Yakuza stories are—the emotional hits in this one though are strong as Kiryu (Joryu) is in this game. The story is a retelling (kinda) of the Yakuza 7 story, from the perspective of Joryu, AKA Kiryu. It really is great to see the story from this perspective, and it adds a lot that otherwise we just didn’t get to see in Ichiban’s side of the story. The game also does away with the turn based combat of Yakuza 7 and goes back to the action beat-em-up style that we’ve come to love from the Yakuza games, and with a new brand fighting style as well. The agent style allows Joryu to use a bunch of different gadgets that, once upgraded become super overpowered. This game makes you so overpowered that, the secret boss you unlock after completing the coliseum and 4 kings storyline… is kind of a pushover if you know what you’re doing. I killed him only using like 4 heat actions which is just absolutely insane.

My thoughts on achievement hunting

Achievement hunting is one of those peculiar hobbies that I think people don’t quite get. And I completely understand why, at a certain point it does become somewhat of a “completing a checklist” type of thing. But that’s the whole point.

What’s the point of achievements then?

I think achievements in games serve two different purposes. One is to be a little reward for the player and give them that very teeny tiny bit of dopamine that we all crave. Achievements like these, in general are my favorite types of achievements because they not only serve the casual enjoyer of the game—but are a blast as an achievement hunter. I would consider completely unmissable achievements (such as story achievements) to be in this category, along with silly achievements like—Stray’s Boom Chat Kalaka achievement which has you “dunk” a basketball in one of its levels.

Dishonored: Death of the Outsider

Out of all the Dishonored games, I liked this one the most. I think it’s the best one, despite being a short spinoff game. It’s a sequel to Dishonored 2, where you play as Meghan Foster, AKA Billie Lurk. I think this game was made to cap off the Dishonored series so it’s no doubt that this is the last game in the series. I think the endings, both good and bad complete the story of the series in a satisfying way.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart

This game is a peculiar one. I had a lot of fun with it. There’s a lot to this game even though the amount of playtime you get out of it is uh… not that much. I platinumed the game in about ~14 hours and I did mostly take my time playing through the game at a considerably slow pace. You could clock in about 20 hours max but the price makes it absolutely not worth buying. $70 dollars for a game such as this is just too much! The game itself is awesome and a lot of fun but the price is not at all justified. It’s worth like, 30-40 dollars at best. I got the game for “free” with PS Plus Extra, but if it weren’t for that I wouldn’t have played it. The game does seem to go on sale often but just strictly judging it off of base price, I wouldn’t buy it.

Stray

Stray is THE game with the absolute best atmosphere I’ve ever had the pleasure of experiencing in a game. The game’s atmosphere and level design, coupled with the beautiful art style and sound design, all of these together form an amazing experience and work to pull you right in and keep you right there, immersed in the world of Stray.

Monster Hunter World: Iceborne

Monster Hunter World: Iceborne, also known as peakborne is just as that second title implies: it’s fucking peak. Finished the story and I’m now planning on moving on to the guiding lands and all the other content the endgame has to offer! Obviously with that comes crown hunting and getting all of the achievements for base World and Iceborne. Which surprisingly has a separate platinum from World which I didn’t expect.
Indie games nowadays are a staple, they’re the games everyone talks about, it’s not just about the big AAA titles now. On one hand live service games are awesome. If supported for a long time, they become classics and come to shape whole childhoods and generations. Yet live service games have a bad reputation and it’s not unwarranted either. There are plenty of reasons to dislike live service games, even more so if you actively play one. The big ones people talk about a lot are shady monetization schemes and business practices. Try to think of any big live service game nowadays that doesn’t have loot boxes, battle passes, gacha mechanics, absurd prices for in-game items and cosmetics—shady “discounts” that aren’t discounts, and it goes on and on! Those are all present in not just free-to-play games, which is the main model games go with these days. They’re present in games which you’ve already paid for, 60, 70 dollars and then when you boot up the game you’re blasted with popups for the latest battle pass! Buy it now! Oh and look at this discounted bundle! It comes with both a car skin and a character skin!

Why I Dislike Most FPS Games

I think what I dislike about them is their fleetingness paired with, unoriginality—it feels as though every new FPS game that comes out nowadays is in one of a few categories. BR, CS/Valorant clone… or uh yeah that’s it w.
There’s some standout games here and there that don’t follow this pattern, which I’ll get into but in general most of the FPS games coming out nowadays are either tactical shooters or BRs and I think it’s sad.

Stardew Valley

I love Stardew Valley. My first introduction to the game was modded lol, I guess that speaks wonders to the kind of game it is.

I’ve been playing on my phone and I think it’s a great phone game! The mobile versions have an “emergency save” feature that lets you start right back from where you left off in the day so you don’t have to sleep to save. That means you can play for a few minutes then put the game down no problem!
Peak gaming. Cat Quest is a game I remember from when I was a little girl—and seeing it on sale for super cheap, I nabbed it. It was a great decision. I remembered this game very fondly and I’m glad to report that it is not nostalgia this game slaps.

The gameplay loop is addictive and keeps you playing, I played it for 10 hours and got the platinum, couldn’t put the game down for those 10 hours.
There’s not that many good missions in the game with the heists being somewhat decent, and even those don’t have much going for them. The missions of the game just feel like “drive to this place, watch cutscene, shoot people, watch cutscene, mission passed”

World Trigger

World Trigger is a super underrated shounen battle anime in my opinion. I don’t hear people talking about it like at all even though it’s probably one of the best in the genre. World Trigger has amazing characters and a banger power system—and an interesting plot to top it all off of course. The world building is nothing to scoff at and the show is filled TO THE BRIM with tournament arcs, which we all know everyone loves.

Bloodborne

If this game got a sequel it would be more than a masterpiece. And I do believe it. The game has a lot going for it despite it having a lot of flaws, if I’d written this post a few years ago I think it’d be different but having now played through Sekiro, Elden Ring and Dark Souls 3 (I’ll go back to ds1 and 2 eventually)

I can say that while this isn’t my favorite game fromsoft has made it is still amazing and still holds up even after all these years. Though it’s being heavily held back by the lack of a rerelease on better hardware. I actually tried replaying the game before writing this post but I just could not do it—30fps is just too shit to do this game justice.

Hades

I’m a sucker for a good roguelite and Hades is one of the best, and also one of the most unique. Hades is one of the first (if not the first) roguelites to have a very prominent story. The story is built around you dying and interacting with the different NPCs at the house of Hades. The game has a total of 21,020 voice lines and 30 voiced characters.

Persona 5 Royal

This can be done on your first playthrough with ease if you just keep a few things in mind. This is a lot more lenient than in the original Persona 5.

Always carry a persona of the same arcana as the confidant you’re about to hang out with, this increases the amount of points you get.

On that note you should always pick the best dialogue option for the most points. You can easily Google these or once you have it you can use Chihaya’s last ability to tell you which ones to choose. Obviously googling is better as you don’t have to spend 10k yen for it.

Prioritize hanging out with confidants over everything else

Books are amazing, ideally you read them after reading the speed reading book you can get from the school library on and after July 1st. But you can probably do it before if you have time, especially on the days you get to read on the train. So you will ideally always have an unread book available for those days.

Big Bang Burger Challenge is really good for stats, just make sure you can pass it before trying. It will give you points in every stat every time you pass it.

USE CHIHAYA!!! When you unlock her you should get her up ASAP as she has super duper useful abilities. Some confidants will have events where you cannot get enough points in order to advance them the next time you hang out, so it will waste time. However with Chihaya you can avoid this completely by using her abilities, specifically her rank 5 one which will increase your affinity with a confidant of your choice, doing this does not advance time and you can use it to avoid having to do extra hangouts with confidants and waste days. Her other abilities are useful too.

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

Sekiro is a great game with one of the best combat systems in any video game ever. And I’m glad to have played and completed it—and to have platinumed it. It is definitely in my top 10.

The Combat

The most important part of the game, is obviously the combat, and the bosses as well—they go hand in hand. Sekiro’s combat is often described as a dance, and that’s not wrong I don’t think. In the start the abilities at your disposal are basic, but you really don’t need much more to beat the game, there is one ability that should be in your default kit, though I know why it isn’t… that is the Mikiri Counter ability. It is the first ability you will ever get probably and it serves as a way to teach the player about the ability system, so it makes sense that it’s not in your default kit since for most players it will be the first ability they ever acquire.

Uncharted 2: Among Theives

Uncharted 2 is a great game that is an improvement on the first in almost every way—story, visuals, and gameplay… not only that but it is also quite a bit longer than the first.

First of all, the game looks a lot better than the first—and I would argue that it kind of (not really) holds up today aesthetically, from an art-style perspective at least. The animations all look way better and all of that is great. But I don’t wanna just wanna make comparisons to the two games constantly because that’s boring—so I’ll just list the big differences here.

Control

Control is an amazing game with an amazing atmosphere.
You play as Jesse Faden, in search of her brother who was taken away by the FBC (Federal Bureau of Control)… which is basically the SCP foundation.

Gameplay

The gameplay in control is something akin to a metroidvania, just more linear than a game you’d traditionally call a metroidvania. The game while mostly story focused has quite a lot of side content as well, especially with the two DLCs—that being said it’s still quite short. I’ve heard of people finishing the game in like 9 hours. I got the plat in about 19.
